DC Tweetups And Twineups Rock Social Media Holiday

Where are you? What are you doing? Who else is there with you? These are questions asked by circles of friends that like to work ahrd and play hard together. Foursquare is on fire right now in part because it answers these questions and gets people together with incentives! On April 16th Foursquare declared it the official social media holiday "Foursquare Day," the first of its kind. And would you believe the idea originated from a hipster optometrist? Social media reaches across the world and on Foursquare Day the global party was unleashed! Checking into a venue and shouting from the Foursquare application, "Happy #4sqday!" earned you a slick badge to document your day in history.

Enter the DC social media circuit: The femme power team of PR and marketing fire, Nicole Nolte and Lisa Byrne, used their joint fun venture DC Tweetups and Twineups (@DCTweetTwine) to bring the global social party to the nation's Capital. The event was promoted across Facebook and Twitter to DC area people and the tweetup (meet up) spot was Public Bar! Not only did these two coordinate a spot on the rooftop with drink specials, they added local businesses that provided worthy giveaways! International Spy Museum jumped on board with two Double Agent tickets and a bag of spy toy goodies, Hilton Alexandria provided a weekend stay and Metromix DC gave away a backpack full of swag! Costumes were involved with winning the goods which added another layer of fun to the evening. Who says social media is a waste of time? These brands and the people involved received word-of-mouth marketing and brand awareness in the days leading up to and during the event...in this instance, all surrounding the social location-based service Foursquare. Its hip to be square (had to say that)!
