Nakeva's DC Social Scene For Good

This year I am participating in Servathon with Greater DC Cares to provide a day of service in the community. I have signed on as a team captain, Nakeva's DC Social Scene For Good, and have team members that will join me in volunteering on Saturday, May 2, 2009. The money raised for this event will allow Greater DC Cares to provide ongoing support of community service and bring awareness to several causes in the DC area. This includes projects such as providing meals to the homeless or who are living with HIV/AIDS, painting classrooms for local public schools, and provide tools to other local non-profits to help improve their facilities. I chose to participate in this effort to give back to the community where I work and play with the belief that I can make a difference by doing and giving my time.

In addition to the great Servathon project, I am also fundraising Breast Cancer through Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. I am participating in a local DC event for breast cancer awareness, NewsBabes Bash For Breast Cancer. The DC nightlife event will bring out several area female news and media mavens to support the cause, get you signed up to run/walk in the upcoming Global Race For The Cure, and a chance to win prizes. In support of this event I am a Pink Blog Ambassador and I have created a small fundraising campaign on Facebook to provide funds toward support of breast cancer research initiatives.
